Corrections.
The process for requesting, classifying, and issuing corrections after a release has been dispatched — timeline, notification obligations, and the audit trail.
Scope
This document covers the corrections process for press releases that have already been dispatched. It applies to all account types and all distribution markets. Corrections to releases not yet dispatched are handled as part of the standard editorial review cycle and do not constitute a formal correction.
Correction types
Corrections are classified into three categories. The classification determines the notification obligation and dispatch procedure.
- Type A — Material factual correction. A correction that changes a fact that is likely to affect how journalists, investors, or regulators interpret the release. This includes corrections to financial figures, dates, named parties, regulatory references, and any statement that has been published by a third-party outlet. Type A corrections are treated with the same priority as a new release.
- Type B — Minor factual correction. A correction that changes a fact that is unlikely to affect interpretation — a typographic error in a figure that was otherwise correct, a misspelling of a non-material proper noun, or an erroneous subtitle that did not affect the release body. Type B corrections are dispatched within the standard four-hour review window.
- Type C — Formatting or boilerplate correction. A correction that affects only the formatting of the release or a standard boilerplate section — logo version, contact detail update, or house style change. Type C corrections are dispatched with the next business day's review cycle unless the client requests expedited handling.
Requesting a correction
Corrections are requested by the authorised client contact by writing to corrections@myprwire.com. The request must include:
- The release reference number (e.g. REL-26049)
- The original text as dispatched
- The corrected text
- The reason for the correction
- Any supporting documentation for the corrected fact
The desk does not accept verbal correction requests. All corrections are confirmed in writing before any action is taken. Where a correction request is received from a party other than the authorised client contact, the desk will verify authorisation before proceeding.
Desk review of corrections
On receipt of a correction request, the reviewing editor confirms the correction against the original release and any supporting documentation. Where the correction changes a material claim, the editor confirms that the corrected version is consistent with all other claims in the release. Where a correction creates a new inconsistency or raises an additional editorial question, the desk returns the correction to the client before proceeding.
Notification obligations
For Type A corrections, the desk notifies all contacts on the original dispatch list who received the release. The notification takes the form of a corrected release with a correction note at the top identifying the change. For Type B and Type C corrections, a corrected version is dispatched to the same list; the covering note indicates the nature of the change. Where a release has been picked up by an outlet before the correction is dispatched, the desk will note this in the correction record. The desk does not contact outlets directly to request amendments to published articles — that obligation rests with the client.
Regulatory corrections
Where a release that was distributed through a regulatory news service requires correction, the client is responsible for initiating the regulatory correction through the applicable service. The desk will coordinate the general distribution correction to follow the regulatory correction, not precede it. The regulatory correction reference is noted in the release's audit record.
Retraction
Where a client requests a full retraction of a dispatched release, the desk treats this as a Type A correction. A retraction notice is dispatched to all contacts on the original list. The retraction notice identifies the release by reference number and headline and states that the release is withdrawn. The desk does not issue a retraction without written authorisation from the client's authorised signatory. Retractions are retained permanently in the release audit record.
Correction timeline
Type A corrections: desk acknowledgement within one hour of receipt during business hours; corrected release dispatched within four business hours of client sign-off on the corrected text. Type B corrections: acknowledgement within two business hours; dispatch within the standard four-hour review window. Type C corrections: acknowledgement within one business day; dispatch within two business days unless expedited.
Correction requests received outside business hours are acknowledged on the next business day. Where a Type A correction involves a release dispatched across multiple time zones and there is an active trading session in a target market, the client should note this in the request and the desk will prioritise accordingly.
Audit trail
Each correction is logged against the original release record. The audit entry records: the correction type, the text before and after, the reviewer's name and sign-off timestamp, the dispatch timestamp for the corrected release, the list of contacts notified, and any regulatory coordination references. Correction records are retained for seven years. Clients may request a copy of the correction record for any release within that period.
